Secret Skye Falls by FlippinPhil Secret Skye Falls by FlippinPhil
Isle of Skye, Scotland

As my brother and I are were heading towards Dunvegan way, I spotted a great looking waterfall in the surrounding hills. We got our gear on, and head up to get to it.

This was the second part of the entire falls, but the biggest, and best drop we thought. I knew getting us in the shots would make a great ID shot from the trip.
I set the shot up just how I wanted, and then got my brother to hit the shutter when I got up to the bottom of the falls, cheers Iain!

I really like how this shows the sheer scale of the falls that are hidden up in the hills all over the place on the Island. The spray, and wind from them up there was great!

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to view, comment, and add to their :+fav:

Nice having you in the picture to give it a sense of scale.

Hey Philip,
~Acwraith and I are heading back to Skye in September, and I was wondering if you'd be able to tell me exactly where on the Isle this is? Incidentally, did you also shoot the Eas Mor fall?
thanks.

Coudn't really tell you exactly where this is but if you go to the Sligachan hotel, and follow that road round there, and keep heading out that way, you will see these falls from the road in the hills to your left.
Don't think I shot the Eas Mor fall, no, but I'll be going back up to Skye in the next few weeks I think.

haha brilliant, I think I've actually worked it out, was it on a big curve in the road to Sligachan with a parking bay?
Skye is beautiful, isn't it? Peter and I are deliberately waiting until dawn is at a more reasonable time before we head back though.

No, I know which falls you are thinking of though. I got some shots of those ones, they are much easier to access than these ones. It is indeed, my brothers mother, and family live up there, so I get to stay at there house for free, and get some amazing meals cooked for me. :D

Hmm, so once you come off the A863 at the hotel, you turn right towards Loch Sligachan, and the falls are somewhere on the left?

You're very lucky to have family on Skye, I'm from Edinburgh but all my family is in Cambridge, Ireland or Germany! I'll be looking forward to ration-packs, potatoes and pot-noodles, as we'll be camping :D Where on Skye are your folks based?

The last time we went we were based right up north near Uist, but I think that this time we're hoping to stay further south and focus on places like Elgol.

Turn in towards the hotel, and go round the road that goes around the back of it, from there it's the road towards ... can't quite remember actually. But if you don't find these exact falls, there is hundreds, if not thousands all around the islands hills, and mountains.

Most of my family is from Edinburgh as well, but my two older brothers family are all in Skye, and some of the others Islands up North. My brothers mum, and where I stay when there, is just next to Broadford.

thanks that's most helpful! It's nice to know there are still people happy to dole out info at whim just to be nice, so thank you! Could you recommend any other secret treasures on Skye, or just some general photography location advice would be most helpful...
